BORN TO BLOG with Theresa Toulmon:”Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee”

In 1Samuel 17, we see David, a little shepherd boy who knew how to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!!  I say this because David’s attitude about battles reminds me of the attitude of that world champion boxer, Muhammed Ali.  David had an attitude about God that eventually caused him to rise up in the power of God to become king of Israel! God described David as a man after His own heart (1Samuel 13:14), because God wanted a king who would obey Him, who would face challenges with confidence and who would totally destroy His enemies, the Philistines.  In every situation, David expected victory and declared it aggressively with his praise. This shepherd boy and future king, David, refused to use the armor of King Saul, but instead took a slingshot and ran towards the giant, taunting him! David’s methods remind me of Ali, who refused to fight as others fought, holding his hands down at his waist to mock his opponents, or using his “rope-a-dope” tactic, in which he pretended to be trapped against the ropes, goading an opponent to wear himself out by punching him repeatedly! Then he would take him out with one punch. In like manner, David fought his way, the way that he knew would work for him.  David was clothed with confidence in God’s power and ability.  David spoke the Word of God in the battle.  In fact, the reason that David, the little shepherd boy, got the opportunity to fight in the “ring” with Goliath, was because David was busy telling everyone about the things that God had already done for him, of how God had empowered him to kill a lion and a bear with his bare hands, because of God’s power.  King Saul was so impressed that he sent for the young man, because of his words.  When Goliath taunted the army of God, David ran towards the giant and defeated him with one unexpected hit with a stone from a sling shot!!  God wants us to be confident in His power working through us.  God wants us to remind ourselves daily of the victories He has already won for us at the cross and at His empty tomb. He is risen from the dead! He wants us to remember the power that is in us and the victory that He has given us.  We are more than conquerors!!  David declared the victory out loud , and told Goliath that God would feed him to the birds today and that he would take off his head. Talk to God today about who He is, and talk to yourself today about the victories that God has already won for you and for others. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee in Jesus’ name!!Talk about how He saved you; talk about how he healed you, and remind yourself of the mighty God who is in you. Remind yourself and stir up the victory that is in you! Meditate in the Word of God. Read Psalm 10 and Psalm 27, then run to the battle with confidence in your heart. Be encouraged and share with others.
