How can we stop criticizing and judging others, if we are constantly criticizing and judging ourselves? How can we love people if we don’t really love ourselves? How can we forgive others, if we are unwilling to forgive ourselves? And how do you love yourself? What does that really mean?
The Bible tells us that not only should we refuse to judge others and refuse to be judged by others, but he must also refuse to judge ourselves!! (See I Corinthians chapter 4). Jesus said that we should love God, and our neighbor, but we must do this as we love ourselves (see Matthew 19:19 and Matthew 22:39.) I copied them below to save you some time.
Matt 19:19: “Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” KJV
Matt 22:37-40: “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Now, I am going to ask you two important questions, and then I am going to make a statement that I believe is totally and completely accurate. After that, I will wait to hear your comments. Here we go:
Question #1: “Do You Like Yourself?” (Stop and think before you give me a knee-jerk response on this.)
Question #2: “Do you love yourself?” (Again, stop and give it some thought.)
My statement of fact: “While you are learning to like yourself, you are required to love yourself.”
